About Vieng Chaleune

Bus is a convenient way of travel no matter whether you need to get to a neighboring town a couple of hours away or venture further afield crossing the whole country. Whatever your budget, buses have you covered. Express buses offer the most affordable ticket price for travellers who have very little money to spend. VIP options are geared toward those who do not want to compromise on comfort. Before you jump on a bus, make sure you choose the type of service which suits you best. For a long-haul trip look for a VIP or first-class coach which provides non-stop service to your destination or just call a minor number of stations along the way. Express or local buses in many cases may prove an acceptable choice for shorter trips, but longer rides are often not the best buy. Study the timetable before going as many long-haul destinations are served by night buses, and some offer wider seats or sleeper berths for such travels. Make an online reservation for your bus ticket with Vieng Chaleune. Other travellers’ reviews will help you to choose the best ticket and coach class.

Vieng Chaleune Ticket Prices & Bus Classes

One of the best things about bus travel is that you can almost tailor-make your trip adjusting it to your requirements for privacy and comfort. Different classes and types of buses cater to the different needs of travellers. The cheapest trips are normally offered by standard-class buses. They may be called local, express or ordinary. These are a good choice for shorter trips. Sleepers or VIP coaches are good both for longer and overnight trips. They may offer berths or wide soft reclining seats, sometimes with built-in massage options, blankets, soft drinks, and snacks, or more substantial meals on board or during toilet or refuelling stops. Travelling by night buses allows you to save on a hotel room, but to ensure the most comfortable ride do choose the class of your bus wisely. Prices always depend on the distance you ride and the type of coach. For some, even shorter trips, it is worth investing some extra money and buying a seat on a VIP bus as it can save you twice as much time as you spend travelling by an ordinary bus.

Travel by Bus: Pros & Cons

Pros of Bus Travel

  • Bus is the best choice to get to destinations that are not connected by rail or planes. The network of buses often covers almost the whole country, and their routes are well and long-established.
  • Opposite to air travel and sometimes rail travel, taking a bus does not require arriving at the bus station much in advance. Check-in, even on international routes, does not take much time. Luggage allowances are usually very traveller-friendly, and the fee for extra luggage, if limits are set, is normally not very high.
  • Bus tickets can be more affordable compared to air or fast train tickets. There is always a choice of ticket classes for all pockets. Cheaper standard options may be a bit slow and do not offer top comfort, but anyway acceptable and bring you to your destination. On longer routes, toilets or toilet stops as well as snacks, water, and sometimes toiletries and blankets are almost always included in the price.
  • If you are ready to spend more, some VIP coaches offer seating comparable to business class on a plane with wide soft reclining seats, blankets, fewer passengers, and many other perks to make your trip a pleasant journey.

Cons of Bus Travel

  • Newer intercity bus terminals are very often located out of the city close to bigger highways to allow buses to avoid city congestion. Unfortunately, it may create extra challenges for travellers, too. Getting to such a terminal may be a problem as in some destinations there are restrictions on vehicles allowed to enter the terminal, and you will have to use special carriers to get there. This results in higher costs as prices may be inflated. Also do calculate extra time if you are travelling during rush hours, especially if you are not familiar with the traffic situation at your starting point.
  • Buses are probably the means of transport which runs out of schedule more often than trains or planes. They are heavily dependent on the road situation which sometimes can be unpredictable – accidents, road construction works, detours, etc. This is especially true for travels during weekends, high season, or national holidays. Do keep this in mind and do not plan tight connections.
  • Travelling on certain routes or during the most popular periods may require advanced booking. Bear in mind that it is not always possible to show up at the bus station and hop on the next bus – tickets may well be all sold out, so organize your trip accordingly.

An over-full minivan: drivers wait for too many people than seats and seatbelts before going :-( that is not comfortable for the price but most important: this is not safe for people. We were also 30' late?

Minivan arrived on time. But too many people were squeezed into one minivan. Some had to sit on a stool for 6 hours. The minivan left 35 minutes late. You felt like an animal in a cage that was far too small.

So many potholes that it was very bumpy however the driver did a great job of getting us through it safely.

Taking this van was a Great experience for us, but it is definitely mit for everyone. Being delayed shouldn't be a problem for you. It was the craziest drive of our life. As the street's' conditions were very bad, we we're shaked the whole 7h Trip. Most of the 20 People in our tiny van got more and more angry while driving. We also don't recommend it for tall or strongly built people - it was really tight. Do not get irritated If the driver stops to grab some locals. One time we had a break for Toilette and eating at a Restaurant. However, we we're glad we took this Option as we couldn't get Tickets for the train and want to have New experiences to enlargen put horizont.

There was extra stools added to the aisle that had no seatbelt or backsupport. We were told we would have a stop on the way to Vang Vieng for food/bathroom which we never got. We were stopped at a stop sign where there was construction and were left out there to climb over a ditch to pee. Not a fun trip but definitely an experience.

Bus left late and the vehicle was different than the one I booked. No AC like promised and the driver had the most awful music on. Usually wouldn’t be bothered but for a 9 hour drive it was awful. For the money you pay you would expect better service and/or explanation.

Easy to book and overall good ride, took only 5 hour with a toilet break. But the road was very bad and bumby so not the most comfy ride. The bus also has two extra seats/chairs (without back support) in the middle of the van so they can fit two extra people in the small van. Luckily I got in first so I got an propper seat.

Booked a 14 seater minivan to leave at 7:30 am, was told there was no bus at 7:30 but was leaving at 8:30. Had a flight to catch leaving us worried we would miss it. There was 20 people on a 14 seater minivan so be prepared for cramped conditions in hot weather so wasn’t pleasant. On the positive side it only took 7 hours not the 10 specified so caught the flight on time. Great service from 12go though. Easy service booking the tickets and great communication. Got us from A to B

The ride was okay! It was 5 hours, not 9 hours which was good! The van itself is small, and the driver squeezes 14 people in it, so if your at the back row then good luck, especially if your a bigger person. But the driver was friendly, stopped of once, and got here quick!

I came one hour before the time and the van departed half an hour late. The driver changed the van and when I realized, the locals that arrived way after me filled the van and only when the van was full they told me to go inside. I got the worst seat at the back, shoulder to shoulder with 3 local guys and could barely move my legs. The other people got fine seats and I had to stay 4 hours in that uncomfortable seat in a horrible road. Only when a man left, I could go to his place. I don't complain for the road, because it's not their fault, but the attitude of sending me to the worst seat, since I arrived first and probably payed way more

It would be good if masks were required. There were other passengers openly coughing and spitting phlegm for the duration.

The bus is clean and beds are well maintained. Very organised everyone sleep in their designated cabin number. Cabin length is about 1.8m just nice for me. But is not overbooked and bus driver knows his way and drive safely, it took us 9 hrs to reach Vientiane fro Luang Prabang instead of 12 hrs. VERY GOOD EXPERIENCE! My previous trip fro Vientiane to Luang Prabang was a nightmare. Took Soutchai bus: 1. Overbooked - 10 white guys have no cabin and sleep on corridor. 2. Beds are worn out and dirty cabin. 3. VERY UNORGANISED nobody follow cabin number and i almost didnt get a cabin because of this. 4. Cabin length is about 1.6m. i Had to bend my leg for 12 hrs because insufficient legroom! 5. Super bumpy and many fast cornering i was worried i couldnt make it to Luang Prabang in one piece. 6. Other than passenger they carry goods as well, my luggage was on top of the bus luckily when unload they didnt break my aluminium luggage handle! 7. SOUTCHAI BUS WAS TOTALLY RUNDOWN COMPARED TO THIS PLS DONT TAKE!

It has nothing to do with the buss actually, the buss was 5/5 and the comfort better than expected. But be prepared to fear for your life because the road is not close to good.

The online purchase was smooth and onsite check in got no issues. Do not ignore the prompt regarding purchase of two tickets if you value your privacy and if you are not the size of a small asian girl. Ultimately the experience of the ride is in your own hands.

VIP buses are not running daytime, so we were put on a minibus. The bus was scheduled to leave at 08:00, instead it departed at 09:00. The trip from Luang Prabang to Vientiane took 10 hours! Buying the tickets online is 30-40% more expensive than buying the tickets in Luang Prabang. You can easily buy the bus tickets at your hotel, travel angencies or at the bus station.

2 hours late. Scheduled arrival 6am, actual arrival 9am. The bus stopped every 1h30. Noisy driver, gsm music, chatter. A meal included in the ticket, 11pm would have been more ideal than 3am to eat. Sincerely

Pros: we got to Vientiane in one piece Cons: we got to bus station one hour before departure; to my shock, the driver’s son (maybe 14) wanted to take/check our tickets and there was no one else around. We got no meal before during or after the ride. The driver turned on lights as he pleased throughout the ride, not just for stops. On one of the stop he nearly left with two people still not being back on the bus. He also smoked on the bus which was hard for us to do anything about given there are no windows and our seats were at the front. But I think my biggest bugbear was the music... the terrible music played over and over the journey especially loud around 3-4am which I assume was to keep the driver awake. We arrived at 7:15am and our bags were very dirty, one was wet too.

October 20, 2019 The ride was good. Safe driving and comfortable sleep. With free water, snack and fried rice for dinner. Blanket is clean too :)

Sleeper night bus. Very Clean. No place to leave your little bag (main luggage kept down). You feel sometimes you lack space to move. DO NOT FORGET to take enough clothes or a blanket with you. It is very cold with the air conditioning. They blanket they provide you with is not enough. They offer a meal of good fried rice and a bottle of water.

Partiti con un'ora di ritardo, durante il tragitto abbiamo preso a bordo altre persone che sono poi scese in punti non previsti causando ulteriori ritardi. Personale scortese.

The seats we got given were not the best they were at the back of the bus beside the toilet, next to the engine and rather uncomfortable. There was a baby laying in the middle of an isle, which was fine until she unfortunately had an accident and stunk the whole bus out. The route was very windy which meant you moved around in your seat a lot, but we made it to Vientiane 10 minutes before scheduled which was a bonus.

oyage à 3, we had bought 4 seats to be more quiet (the bunks are tiny). We were asked to change seats, and we found ourselves at the very back of the bus, in a high position. An extra person came to join us in the night, because of overbooking, apparently. We were shaken by the movements of the bus, the air conditioning sometimes leaked on our heads, and smells of exhaust came to perfume our night... Fortunately, the driver was punctual.

Bumpy road ahead. Driver will stop at most places to fetch passengers and they will sleep on the floor which will be next to the other passengers on lower berth. Choose upper berth if u wish to have some privacy
