At 12Go our operators offer three types of service:

Cheap, Fast, Good - but you can usually pick only two of them!
Cheap & Fast won’t be Good. (e.g. buses from/to Khao San Road, local buses or 3rd class trains)
Cheap & Good won’t be Fast. (e.g. VIP trains in Thailand)
Fast & Good won’t be Cheap. (e.g. private limousine services, or VIP24 buses vs Express buses)

Make your choice! Please remember that while we are closely monitoring the services, we are still an agency marketplace. That means we focus on ticketing services and route availability & coverage rather than on the factual seat reclining angle you will get on the bus today.

Da Nang - Nha Trang, train SE-1, Coach 3. We liked this train very much. Was much better than SE-2. New coach, comfortable seats, clean, good food service. The train came to Da Nang a little bit later than sheduled, but we arrived at Nha Trang at due time. The only problem was that it was very difficult to close the toilet doors and nearly impossible to open them. I think it is a constructive defect. Strongly recommend this train. On the way you'll see vonderful landskapes.

everything was totally okay - no problems whatsoever. 4* because this train didn't have fold down tables for each seat, or adjustable air con. Neither of which really mattered, but we had them on the last train we took with Vietnam Railways. Overall, good experience.

The view is the best on the planet. However the births (sleeper bunks) do not have enough space for you to sit up. Plan to stay in a yoga pose for 12 hours.

The class 2 seat car was comfortable. The train ambles through the countryside and offers beautiful views. It arrived on time at both the beginning and end of the trip. Food carts rolled through around mealtimes, although we bought only peanuts as we brought our own snacks aboard for a full day trip. A few crying babies were to be expected. One seat did not stay in its upright position. All in all, we’d recommend this train as a nice way to travel.

First time taking and overnight train with a bed rather than a seat, and we got more sleep. The bed is really dirty and our room was infested with cockroaches. Not for the faint hearted but gets you from one place to another relatively fast and for not a lot of money.

The longest journey I made was from Saigon to Hué (18 hours in the train), and even if the ride was ok, I would not recommend to take it for longer than I did, but I would do it again without any hesitation. Travelling across Vietnam, I used both sleeper bus and trains, and I really prefer the latter. Sure, beds on trains are a little hard, but a train is not a five-star hotel. Sure toilets are a little smelly and have no toilet paper (as most places in Vietnam), but toilets in trains in general are not the most welcoming, including the wealthiest contries in the world as Switzerland, so I found them pretty ok, and they are always here, not as on the road with the bus. Sure the train is noisy, peolple are talking, the train on tracks is making noise, but I prefer it to the blarring horn of bus and trucks around you on the road. Plus, in trains, you are four by compartments, not 40 as in sleeper bus. Finally, the train is a safer way to travel (chances of an accident are close to zero), it is inexpensive, and it is a great way of meeting local people. To sum it up, I would say that if you are travelling between two five-stars resort in Vietnam and want the greatest comfort, take a flight. If you want an inexpensive travel and see the real Vietnam, take the train, you won't regret it. (PS : I took three different trains on my journey across the country, and it is true that some are more modern and better equiped than others, but you can't tell in advance...)

Traveled in 1st class sleeper from Da Nang to Nha Trang. Not impressed by cleanliness in cabin and toilet, but didn't expect much. At first we were alone in the cabin, but later conductor left two local people in our cabin that obviously didn't have a 1st class ticket. The aircondition was on and off, when on too cold, when off to hot. And the food is basic, so bring something for longer journeys. Nevertheless it was a good experience and we still have one more trip booked from Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh City.

Very civilized airline (Europe take note), check in smooth lots of desks open so no need to wait, pass serenely through security again no need to wait. Boarded the aircraft with no hassle and bags arrived on the baggage carousel almost as we got to it. Love Vietnam Airlines wish flying could always be this simple.

Staff on board speaks no english at all!! Normally they would just ignore you, if you don't make the extra effort to communicate your request to them, even then not sure if they understand at all. Announcements should be in english as well. Toilet was bearable but the door knob was stuck for a few times before we managed to open it. We had the whole cabin for ourselves, which is decently clean, so the entire trip wasn't too bad.

Train left Da Nang and arrived in Nha Trang without much delay. Beds had been slept in/left messy but that's not uncommon. Room was hot for the first hour or so and then I guess the AC decided to make up for lost time and blasted freezing air the rest of the trip. (So make sure you have easy layering options. My silk sleep sack helped a lot) Overall I still slept and would use the service again. It's all part of the Vietnam adventure!

It was fantastic. This time I was on a new bogie with 2 attendants. Last time there was only 1 in the old first class bogie. We got a bottle of water too, which we didn't get last time. This is how the first class bogie should be. Please discard the old bogies/coaches.

Booked 1st class soft sleeper. Bunks hard and short (about 5ft 10in), bedding dirty, some cockroaches and ants in compartment. Toilets dirty. If you are after a senic route, I recommend travelling during the day as if you are traveling through the night (like us) you miss most of it. Staff are most unhelpful and we had to cross the tracks to find our carriage - poor lighting, no English and people had already been sleeping in our beds. To be honest I recommend flying but if you are on a budget - this is better than catching a bus!

The journey took longer than expected and we arrived an hour late at our destination. We were sitting in the 2nd class seats, due to not booking early enough this was our only option. It was one of the worest journeys we’ve done throughout our travels the carriage was very loud for the whole 12 hours, impossible to sleep. There was also people constantly coming up and down the aisles selling food(some were passengers selling food they’d made at home to make extra money on the train) as the journey went on the carriage got dirty and smelly. We received no help from the staff on the train with our suitcases but did get help from local people in the carriage. I’m only giving it 2 stars due to the fact it was clean at the start and we didn’t see any insects.

My suggestion is to use the Porter's in the light blue shirts when you arrive to the station. For a couple of bucks tip they will help you get through the ticket pick up(I had a voucher) , and then schlep your luggage on to the correct train/car number. Couldn't have been smoother. As far as the actual berth, I shared with 4 people. If you're on the bottom be prepared to share your space with the folks on top. When they aren't laying down there is no where else for them to sit. But it was all good and as the only non local in the room I made new friends (thanks Google Translate). Also we were fed 2 meals that were free, plus opportunity to buy more throughout the trip. Bathrooms are bathrooms, they worked. Very pleased overall.

We purchased tickets about 6 weeks before and printed out voucher as told, got to the train station and nobody knew anything about the ticket, we had a lot of trouble trying to contact the company and when we did we were sent tickets with other people’s names and passport numbers on which we used as we had no choice!! So thinking someone else had our tickets and passport numbers?? Once on the train the cabin was clean and comfortable and good temperature, toilets were usable but very dirty and smelly!

We opted for the more expensive option because it was advertised as “first class soft sleeper”. However, the beds were rock hard so we felt the term “soft sleeper” was very misleading and unacceptable. A positive is that we arrived on time, but having had very little sleep.
