Ha Giang to Hai Phong Destination Reviews

The first driver to go from Ha Giang to Hanoi was not nice, like he didn't like tourists. He honked all road long... After this we took another bus and the boat and the guy from good morning cat ba was really really nice, they dropped us at our hotel. Too bad the first bus wasn't good...

Overall fine, bus stopped twice for a little toilet break. They picked up a few people along the way also in the middle of the night. Then the driver would put all lights on ahain so you constantly wake up. But the driving skills were ok and at least they were not shouting or on the phone the whole night (which is often the case when taking a bus in Vietnam). Bus was half an hour late but that was fine. We did not like it that we could not choose our seats. We had to go in the back of the bus where we had to find some spaxe. However the front of the bus had plenty of seats available. According to the driver they were reserved for pregnant woman. But it turned out they were for Vietnamese locals as the seats we were first in and got kicked out off were taking by Vietnamese man and no pregnant woman. This we feel is very unfair. It seems as tourist you have to be happy with the bad seats at the wheel or motor of the bus and the locals get the better seats.

If you are over 1,75m in height don‘t hake this bus. Couldn‘t even stretch fully so sleeping was very uncomfortable. Bus arrived 30min early and drivers were in a rush to take off. We arrived about 1 hour early in Cat Ba which was nice. Besides that I would‘t take this bus again …

We’ve had excellent experiences with Daiichi. Highly recommended. If possible and along the way, they can even coordinate to drop you off closer to your accommodation. They are reliable and trustworthy.

Lets say: It was an adventure. We weren't allowed to choose our seets. We had to take the backrow. The bus left Ha Giang and went to an Hostel and picked up some people. Then the bus went back to Ha Giang where we got picked up... but for this the ride took 2 hours to just be at the same spot again. The first toiletspot was not okay. They where no proper stalls, no doors, walls reaching to my chest, it was dirty. If you just have to pee you can live with it, but everythingelse is just not okay. The light switched on and of during the ride. The best thing was that we got to the place we had to go.

The bus coordinator was yelling on the phone all the time. After a few minutes we stopped like for an hour without any reason. And the 1st stop there was nothing to buy and the toilets were just 2 squares with 1.3 mts walls and in the case of men it was just the wall, no toilets inside..

The staff of Ha Giang hostel (pick up point) was very helpfull and reasuring to indicate us wich bus we needed to take. The beds seemed a bit tight for tall people (wich was not my case) though, but the ride was good. The bus arrived 30 mins late, but we arrived 30 mins earlier.

So this was actually one of the worst experiences of my life. Me and my boyfriend are backpacking trough Vietnam. We booked two tours with “Sapa Vietnam” before. Both went well. So we booked a third tour from ha giant to Catba. It was a sleeper bus, leaving at 18:45, planning on arriving at 6:48. 609,500 Dong per person (~25€). First of the bus was in a really bad condition, the belts weren’t usable and also you couldn’t change the position of the seat, but honestly that was nothing compared to what was coming. So first it took us over an hour to leave ha Giang. We were constantly stopping not only to pick up other passengers, but also I believe “illegal” ones, that than were sitting on the floor in the bus. We couldn’t drive 10 min without stopping. We also stopped just so the driver and the other stuff could have a break to smoke. Furthermore we then stopped to pick up a living pig. (?!) The pig was than put in the box where our baggage was stored. They put a bag over its head and tied its legs together. It was so sad to watch! We also picked up envelopes and packages from several different places, like we were also a post delivering service. And we also stopped at the Supermarkt so that the driver could get cookies?? We than also picked up a cage with several small pigs and a cage with chicken, that were both also stored with our backpacks, brutally like the first one! I want to emphasize here that you could hear their screams ALL THE TIME. We are now currently 4 hours in this bus. It’s not possible to sleep, because you can constantly hear how bad those animals are hurting? The driver is also on his phone talking to people, which also makes sleeping harder. We now did our first toilet stop - well we actually stopped at a place where the toilet was a hole in the ground. You couldn’t stand being there because you could smell the excrements of others so bad. We then tried to go to the toiled at a meadow next to the spot we parked, but the bus driver actually told us we were not allowed to and could only go where the hole was??! In general the stuff was not really friendly, always hurrying us passengers, but stopping every five minutes to pick something up! It took us than another 1,5 hours to drop every package we picked up in ha Giang off to different addresses. We arrived in Catba 1,5 hours later than expected. What can I say I’m truly shocked. I would have never expected this when booking a tour with “Sapa Vietnam”. I can just say, I hope you check your bus drivers and stuffs before the next rides, because so you will lose all your potential customers, in particular me. After this experience I’m not quite sure if I want to travel with your company ever again!!
