Very comfortable vehicle, serious and careful driver, departure and arrival on time, bottle of water for everyone, mid-route break, drop off on arrival if notified.

We did not feel safe as drivers eyes kept closing during the ride. Punctual, but not relaxed ride.

Everything went smoothly. The border crossing was also super easy thanks to the staff. The only thing you have to pay for yourself is lunch, which is not as described in the booking.

Late, slow and cramped. Van was different from the company from whom we bought our tickets and so journey ended late and in the wrong location

The driver didn’t speak a word of English. The journey was estimated to be 3/4 hours so me and my gf expected a stop or 2 on the way. When we needed a break I requested to the driver but not responding then we went past 3 toilets so I needed to get google translate out then he laughs and had to wait another 30 mins to get to a toilet. Only to realise he stopped at a place he could get a free meal from and couldn’t stop for the passengers who needed a break out of the van or go to the toilet.

What mode of transportation is the best one for my route?

Bus

Travelling from Sihanoukville to Phnom Penh overland will inevitably take longer but in many cases it is the cheapest option if you opt for a bus.

Things to remember: If you are planning to make detours during your trip, discuss it with your driver or service provider in advance as it may affect the price.

Train

Train is a often a great choice for long-haul travel especially if you opt for a night sleeper train with berths which will allow you to sleep all your journey through. To make the most of your train journey, choose the class of your ticket wisely.

Note that there are air-conditioned and fan-only carriages; private compartments for 2 or 4; hard and soft seats.
Though the upper class you get the smoother is your journey, often second class air-conditioned or fan-only sleepers are a good money saving alternative.

Van

Vans are a great alternative - or, in many cases - your only option - if you need to travel overland within one and the same province or neighbouring provinces or states. Vans ply the roads between Sihanoukville and Phnom Penh, too.

Things to remember: When travelling by van with huge luggage buying a separate seat for your suitcase or backpack is a good idea. Do not expect there is a roomy luggage compartment in a van - there is actually none and your fellow passengers are unlikely to appreciate your luggage stuck under their feet, alas.
